June 6, 2021 marks the 10th anniversary of the CKD Management Center of West China Hospital of Sichuan University. The seeds of the CKD Management Center sown 10 years ago, after 120 months of hard work by nephrologists of West China Hospital, have borne fruits. Nowadays, the importance of CKD (Chronic Kidney Disease) management has been commonly recognized by nephrological experts, and the follow-up management of CKD has been promoted and carried out throughout China, which has benefited the patients with chronic kidney disease.


This event was sponsored by Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association (SCIMEA) and organized by the Special Committee on Nephrology of SCIMEA. The guests attending the 10th anniversary celebration of CKD Management Center included Prof. Huang Jin, Vice President of West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Prof. Jiang Yan, Director of Nursing Department, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Prof. Xiang Jing, Director of Blood Purification of Chinese Nursing Association, Ms. Zhang Mengfan, Secretary General of SCIMEA, Prof. Fu Ping, Director of Department of Nephrology/Director of Nephrology Institute, West China Hospital of Sichuan University, Prof. Hu Zhangxue, Secretary of the Party Branch of Department of Nephrology, West China Hospital of Sichuan University, Prof. Tao Ye, Discipline Director of Department of Nephrology, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Prof. Shi Yunying, Head of CKD Management Center, Department of Nephrology, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Prof. Diao Yongshu, Head Nurse, Department of Nephrology, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, as well as the professors and nursing experts from allied hospitals and representatives from other provinces and cities across China.


At the opening ceremony of the celebration, Prof. Huang Jin, Vice President of West China Hospital, Sichuan University, on behalf of the Party and administrative leading team of West China Hospital of Sichuan University, firstly expressed warm congratulations on the convening of this meeting. He stressed that, western China is one of the regions with the highest incidence of CKD in China, and the Department of Nephrology of West China Hospital, after 34 years of development, has become the largest treatment center for difficult and critical kidney diseases and the largest nephrological talent research & training base in western China. In 2011, under the leadership of Director Fu Ping, the Department of Nephrology of West China Hospital established the CKD Management Center, and took the lead to establish the MDT follow-up management program integrating nephrologists, nurses and nutritionists. The center, with Prof. Shi Yunying at the wheel, provides systematic and standardized chronic disease management for CKD patients through multidisciplinary integration, with a view to delaying disease progression to the greatest extent and thus effectively improving the survival quality of patients.

The West China Chronic Kidney Disease Management Medical Alliance, founded on the existing nephrology alliance and under the support of the Special Committee on Nephrology of SCIMEA, will feature multi-center overlapping and doctor-nurse integration in the future, build a more solid and broad platform for the member units that will help to carry out multi-dimensional online and offline medical cooperation and multi-center clinical research, and will definitely promote the overall development and growth of nephrology in western China. 


In his speech, Prof. Fu Ping, Director of Department of Nephrology of West China Hospital expressed his gratitude to all the leaders and experts who have witnessed and supported the growth of the CKD Management Center over the past 10 years, and also thanked all the CKD team members who have been selflessly contributed to the achievements of CKD over the last decade.

Based on the experience and advantages accumulated in the past, we still need to focus on the characteristics of CKD and the domestic diagnosis and treatment model, further coordinate the CKD management model from the perspective of multidimensional integration, capitalize on the Internet technology, help improve the quality and efficiency of management, form a virtuous cycle, and use the West China Nephrology CKD Management DNP Medical Alliance as a link to break the information barriers of disciplinary communication and overcome the bottleneck of resource deficiency, integrate resources, share results, and bring the CKD management to a new level. 


Prof. Shi Yunying, head of the CKD Center of the Department of Nephrology, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, said in her opening speech that, as both a contributor and a witness to the development of the CKD Center over the past 10 years, the Department of Nephrology of West China Hospital, adhering to CKD management, has grown from a seed yesterday to a flourishing tree today, which is inseparable from the support and unfailing commitment of all peers. So far, the CKD Management Center has followed up more than 3,000 patients in the file, effectively delayed disease progression, postponed dialysis time, prolonged patients' lives, improved their quality of life, and reduced the burden of health care. The 10 years of persistent efforts have also contributed indelibly to the growth and progress of CKD management in China.


In the subsequent establishment session and project launch of Chronic Kidney Disease Alliance of West China Hospital of Sichuan University, Secretary General Zhang Mengfan, on behalf of SCIMEA, first expressed her congratulations on the establishment and on-schedule project launch of the Alliance, and also on the 10th anniversary of CKD Management Center of West China Hospital. In the past 10 years, the CKD Management Center has explored a relatively mature management model, established a nationwide CKD management training system, launched the special Tai chi program for CKD management and is continuously expanding its Chronic Kidney Disease Consortium, scoring remarkable achievements.

The SCIMEA hopes to work closely with experts in the field of nephrology in the future and actively carry out popularization of science for the public, patient education and online training on CKD management through the platforms of SCIMEA, so as to better contribute to CKD management.




During the establishment and project launch ceremony of the CKD Alliance, President Huang Jin, Director Fu Ping, Director Jiang Yan, Prof. Shi Yunying and Chief Nurse Diao Yongshu came up on stage to jointly light up the launching wall and awarded the tablets to the leader units of the Alliance.


Later, the launch ceremony of Rehabilitation Exercise of CKD Management Center, Department of Nephrology of West China Hospital—Tai chi Program was also held under the witness of Prof. Huang Jin, Vice President of West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Prof. Xiang Jing, Director of Blood Purification of Chinese Nursing Association, Ms. Zhang Mengfan, Secretary General of SCIMEA, Prof. Fu Ping,  Director of Department of Nephrology/Director of Nephrology Institute, West China Hospital of Sichuan University, and Prof. Diao Yongshu, Head Nurse, Department of Nephrology, West China Hospital, Sichuan University. 


Over the years, the Department of Nephrology of West China Hospital has also been actively exploring the way of exercise rehabilitation for patients with kidney diseases, and promoting Tai chi among the medical workers and patients, so as to inherit the non-heritage culture and help patients recover with practical actions.




In the performance session of the 10th anniversary celebration, the medical staff and patients with kidney diseases of CKD Management Center worked together to have performed many wonderful cultural programs, such as poetry recitation, drama, dance, etc., to the guests and audience, who spent an unforgettable day in laughter.


After ten years has passed, the doctors’ original aspiration remain unchanged. We also believe that in such a positive and harmonious atmosphere, the CKD Management Center will surely have a very bright tomorrow.
