Western Sichuan, the land of abundance, enjoys a vast expanse of fertile land. 

A feast is held in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan and a city of happiness, which has gathered many famous experts in western China!

In order to promote the development of vascular surgery in western China and to explore the construction of a close-knit, friendly  collaboration platform for vascular surgery in western China, the inaugural meeting of IUA-CC Western Vascular Surgery Expert Committee,  co-sponsored by Western Vascular Surgery Expert Committee of Chinese Chapter of International Union of Angiology (IUA-CC) (hereinafter referred to as “Expert Committee”) and Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association (hereinafter referred to as “ SCIMEA”), organized by West China Hospital of Sichuan University was successfully held on August 11, 2023 in Chengdu, Sichuan Province.

The Expert Committee was initiated by West China Hospital of Sichuan University, People's Hospital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University and Yunnan Provincial People's Hospital, and was prepared by 265 vascular surgery specialists from more than 180 medical institutions in 10 provinces/municipalities/autonomous regions in western China. It aims to unite more vascular surgery peers in western China to participate in the development of vascular surgery and help build a healthy China!

The first item of the inaugural meeting was a speech delivered by Prof. Chen Zhong from Beijing Anzhen Hospital, Capital Medical University, the first Executive President of IUA-CC. Prof. Chen first expressed a warm welcome to the guests present at the meeting, and said that this is the inaugural meeting of the first vascular surgery expert committee since the establishment of IUA-CC. The meeting brought together experts in vascular surgery across Western China and through learning and exchange at the Expert Committee, everyone can accumulate strength for the joint promotion of the development of vascular surgery in the west and even China. It is believed that with the joint efforts of experts from all various places, the vascular surgery in the Western China will advance steadily and benefit patients.

The consultant representative of the Expert Committee, Prof. Wang Yuqi from Zhongshan Hospital of Fudan University delivered a speech. Prof. Wang said that the Vascular Surgery Expert Committee is not only a joint platform for sharing experience, but also an academic organization to unite peers and strengthen exchanges, aiming to promote the development of vascular surgery in western China. Prof. Wang shared his experiences, perceptions, and gains in vascular surgery over the past ten years, and advocated that everyone keep in mind the original intention of “serving patients” and move forward courageously around the goal of “treating serious illnesses in the province”. He hoped that the establishment of the Vascular Surgery Expert Committee can promote mutual assistance among the western provinces, accelerate and satisfy patients' good wishes for local medical treatment, and safeguard the overall balanced development of vascular surgery in the western region.

Prof. Fu Weiguo, honorary chairman of the Expert Committee and Zhongshan Hospital of Fudan University, also delivered a speech. Prof. Fu mentioned that this is the first vascular surgery expert committee since the establishment of IUA-CC, which marks the development of vascular surgery in the western region in the direction of “unity, cooperation, and win-win”. He hoped that more regional expert committees for vascular surgery will be established in the future to promote the common development of vascular surgery in China.

One of the initiators of the IUA-CC Western Vascular Surgery Expert Committee, Prof. Zhao Jichun from West China Hospital of Sichuan University, made a report on work preparation and development planning at the inaugural meeting. Prof. Zhao first thanked the experts and peers for their dedication and efforts in the development of vascular surgery in the western region, and said that the establishment of the expert committee has set up a “liaison station” for the vascular surgery cause in the western region. As the basis for the development of vascular surgery in the western region, the establishment of the expert committee has built a platform for academic exchanges in the remote regions of the west and laid a foundation for the development of vascular surgery in the entire western region. He also thanked again for the support of fellow experts. Prof. Zhao reviewed the history and progress of the development of the vascular cause in the entire western region in the past ten years, and introduced the “IUA-CC Western Vascular Surgery Expert Committee (proposed)”. Prof. Zhao said that with the joint support and efforts of all peers, the development of vascular surgery in the western region will definitely get better and better.

After nomination and discussion by the expert committee, the expert committee invited Prof. Wang Yuqi and Prof. Wang Shenming as senior consultants, Prof. Chen Zhong, Prof. Fu Weiguo, and Prof. Guo Wei as honorary chairmen, Prof. Zhao Jichun, Prof. Ge Xiaohu, Prof. Gong Kunmei, Prof. Zhao Yu,  Prof. Liu Jianlin , Prof. Yan Bo, Prof. Zhang Li, and Prof. Zhou Dong as co-chairmen, Prof. Zhao Jichun as the first executive chairman, Prof. Guan Sheng, Prof. Guo Shuguang, Prof. Hao Yingxue, Prof. Hu Zhipeng, Prof. Huang Bin, Prof. Liu Yong, Prof. Lu Shaoying, Prof. Luo Jun, Prof. Ma Sixing, Prof. Phurbu Tsering, Prof. Shu Xiaojun, Prof. Sun Jianming, Prof. Tian Hongyan, Prof. Wang Yong, Prof. Wen Shiqi, Prof. Yang Bin, Prof. Yuan Ping, and Prof. Zhang Mao as vice chairmen.
