In order to promote the development of the discipline of neuroimmunology and infection and to further strengthen academic exchanges among peers, the inaugural meeting of the Special Committee on Neuroimmunology and Infection of Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association (SCIMEA), sponsored by SCIMEA, was successfully held in Chengdu on July 1, 2023. More than 100 experts attended this inaugural meeting on site, aiming to build a professional exchange platform in the field of neuroimmunology and infection and promote high-quality development.

The first item of the inaugural meeting was a preparatory report by Prof. Hong Zhen, one of the initiators of the Special Committee on Neuroimmunology and Infection of SCIMEA. Prof. Hong Zhen made a report on the inaugural background, purpose and preparatory process of the committee. With a high morbidity rate, neurological infectious diseases have a serious disability and fatality, and studies have shown that they cause heavy economic and social burdens. As an emerging field, the development of neuroimmunology and infection is lagging behind in Southwest China. Therefore, it is necessary to build a professional platform to improve the diagnosis and treatment of all levels of treatment institutions through training, promote the transformation of scientific research results, serve patients, push for the progress of scientific research, and discover excellent young talents.

Later, Tong Yubo, Director of Academic Conference Affairs Department of SCIMEA, organized the election of the special committee and read out the results. And the leaders at all levels of the special committee were elected at the scene according to the election provisions in the Articles of Association of Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association. As a result, comrades He Li, Shi Fudong, Sun Hongbin, Wang Jiawei, Zhao Gang and Zhou Hongyu were elected as advisors, Prof. Zhou Dong of West China Hospital of Sichuan University as honorary chairman, Prof. Hong Zhen of West China Hospital of Sichuan University as the chairwoman, 9 comrades, including Gong Liang, Huang Shungui and Jiang Guogui as the vice chairmen, 41 comrades including Bi Youcai, Zeng Shangxia and Chen Lin as members of the standing committee, and 104 comrades including Bao Shimin and Cai Tianyan as members, comrade Huang Shungui as secretary general, as well as comrades Liu Xu and Li Aiqing as secretaries. The new chairwoman, Prof. Hong Zhen, expressed her sincere thanks to her peers for their trust and support, and hoped that she could rely on the platform of the SCIMEA to formulate medium- and long-term planning of academic activities, carry out basic education and training at the grassroots level, promote the popularization of knowledge, cultivate and recommend outstanding workers, and set up talent echelon cultivation programs, so as to ultimately achieve a win-win situation for both the organization and the talents, and continuously enhance the medical and technical skills in the field of neuroimmunology and infection across the province, and realize the effective allocation of resources for continuous downward permeation of resource superiority, finally promoting the high-quality development of neuroimmunology and infection in the province.

As a service-oriented platform industry organization dedicated to promoting international medical exchanges and cooperation, academic exchanges and discipline development, and industry resource integration and value transformation, SCIMEA will give full play to the advantages of the industry platform, continuously link the industry development resources, and provide more professional and precise services to experts and the Special Committee on Neuroimmunology and Infection based on the needs of the experts, so as to jointly promote the construction and scientific research development of the discipline of neuroimmunology and infection. The establishment of the Special Committee on Neuroimmunology and Infection will build a platform for neuroimmunology and infection practitioners to communicate and collaborate, increase professional cohesion, improve the diagnosis and treatment of neurological diseases in the province, inject new ideas into clinical and scientific research, promote new technological development, propel the Healthy China strategy, benefit the patients, and promote the innovative and high-quality development of clinical neuroimmunity and infection in western China, and strive to contribute to the construction of a healthy Sichuan and a healthy China.
