In recent years, critical care medicine has been developing rapidly, and the development of critical care ultrasound has also been in full swing. Under the continuous exploration and practice of CCUSG pioneers, the development of critical care ultrasound has deepened from a bedside assessment technique to a powerful weapon for visualizing and integrating monitoring, analyzing the nature and mechanism of critical illness, and guiding standardized behaviors; as mass application of critical care ultrasound has led to more “truths”, which provokes thought of the veterans of critical care, the knowledge of hemodynamics has been further improved, leading to the development of critical care ultrasound, and forming an visualize integrated monitoring-oriented innovation and scientific research, standard pathway-oriented education and training and an ecosystem of clinical treatment improvement. In this context, Prof. Yin Wanhong from West China Hospital of Sichuan University and others initiated to found the “Special Committee on Critical Care Ultrasound and Hemodynamics” under the Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association (SCIMEA), with the intention of gathering more forces, vigorously promoting the development of critical care ultrasound and hemodynamics and contributing to the development of critical care medicine. The inaugural meeting was successfully held in Chengdu on May 7, 2023.
The opening ceremony of the meeting was hosted by Zeng Xueying from West China Hospital of Sichuan University/West China Tianfu Hospital of Sichuan University.
The first item of the inaugural meeting was a report on the preparatory work by Prof. Yin Wanhong, the main initiator of the Special Committee on Critical Care Ultrasound and Hemodynamics of SCIMEA. Prof. Yin Wanhong noted that, with the support of Prof. Kang Yan, Prof. Huang Xiaobo, Prof. Jin Xiaodong and all the colleagues of CCUSG, the West China Hospital Critical Care Ultrasound Group has developed into Sichuan Critical Care Ultrasound Collaborative Group, with which we have carried out a lot of academic activities and several core skill trainings including the “Spring Farming Action”, “Angel Project”, “Rooting Action” and “Qingmang Plan”. In addition, we have also explored the practice of visual treatment of critical care illness, developed a standard pathway for visual treatment, and established the Sichuan Critical Care Ultrasound Quality Control Alliance. As a result, we have accumulated systematic academic concepts, standard treatment paths and training courses, and have produced some results of medical-industrial integration. At this time of vigorous development, the establishment of the Special Committee on Critical Care Ultrasound and Hemodynamics is conducive to the further implementing the academic concepts, upgrading the treatment model, completing the combination of medicine, education, research, creation and management, and contributing more to the development of the critical care discipline.
Later, Tong Yubo, Director of Academic Conference Affairs Department of SCIMEA, organized the election of the special committee and read out the results. And the leaders at all levels of the special committee were elected at the scene according to the election provisions in the Articles of Association of Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association. As a result, Prof. Kang Yan, President of West China Tianfu Hospital of Sichuan University, was invited to be honorary chairman of the committee, and Prof. Huang Xiaobo of Sichuan Provincial People's Hospital and Prof. Jin Xiaodong of West China Hospital of Sichuan University were invited to be advisors. Prof. Yin Wanhong was elected as the chairman, 4 experts including Wang Yiping, Liao Xuelian, Lei Xianying and Cao Lianghai as vice chairmen, and 45 experts including Deng Yiyun, Liu Huan and Yang Yunqin as members, among which 3 experts including Zou Tongjuan, Qin Yao and Tang Xuemei also served as secretaries.
Secretary General Zhang Mengfan read out the “Approval for the Establishment of the Special Committee on Critical Care Ultrasound and Hemodynamics of Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association”, and awarded the approval for the establishment to the newly-elected chairman Prof. Yin Wanhong.

Prof. Kang Yan, honorary chairman, congratulated the establishment of the Special Committee on Critical Care Ultrasound and Hemodynamics and delivered a speech. With the joint efforts of all medical colleagues, critical care ultrasound has established a profound academic foundation and a broad public base after years of collaborative development and widespread clinical application, which laid down the foundation for the establishment of the committee. It is expected that the committee, under the leadership of Yin Wanhong, will bring together multiple resources on the platform of SCIMEA, and make greater contributions to critical care medicine.
Prof. Jin Xiaodong, advisor of the Special Committee on Critical Care Ultrasound and Hemodynamics, said in his speech that, the integration of critical care ultrasound and hemodynamics will definitely produce a profound impact on the understanding of critical care ultrasound, hemodynamics, ultrasound hemodynamics and even critical care. The establishment of the special committee is conducive to the standardized training and strict quality control of critical care ultrasound as well as hemodynamic management, so as to explore the development path together. The committee will promote the academic system and standardized management of critical care ultrasound and hemodynamics in Sichuan province and even in China, carry out relevant academic research and communication, and develop and strengthen the professional team of critical care ultrasound and hemodynamics.
The newly elected chairman Prof. Yin Wanhong spoke on behalf of all members of the Special Committee on Critical Care Ultrasound and Hemodynamics. Prof. Yin Wanhong expressed his gratitude to Prof. Kang Yan and others for their leadership and strong support since 2011, as well as for the opportunity of the era of great development of critical care ultrasound. He was honored to be the vanguard, under the leadership of teachers and with the help of medical colleagues, to set up the special committee to explore the core skills and core concepts that can support the development of critical care. He was grateful to the SCIMEA for providing the platform for everyone to follow their passion and realize their hopes, and the committee will cherish the opportunity to gather strength and work hard.
Ms. Zhang Mengfan, Secretary General of SCIMEA, expressed her warm congratulations on the establishment of the Special Committee on Critical Care Ultrasound and Hemodynamics and delivered a speech.
The Special Committee on Critical Care Ultrasound and Hemodynamics will further enrich and improve the academic organization system, further gather talents in critical care ultrasound and hemodynamics in the province, comprehensively promote academic exchange, clinical research, personnel training and continuing education in critical care ultrasound and hemodynamics, continuously improve the level of critical care ultrasound application in Sichuan and western China, and provide a strong boost to the flourishing development of critical care medicine.
The academic session was held after the inaugural meeting, which was divided into two parts, respectively chaired by Prof. Jin Xiaodong from West China Hospital of Sichuan University, Prof. Wang Maojuan from Deyang People's Hospital and Prof. Chen Jun from People’s Hospital of Jinyang City. The experts from the Special Committee on Critical Care Ultrasound and Hemodynamics gave wonderful lectures on critical care discipline construction, critical care ultrasound and hemodynamic management, intelligent hemodynamic management and quality control. In addition, Prof. Yin Wanhong shared the “Work Plan of the Current Special Committee”, saying that the committee integrates medicine, education, research, creation and management, and in the future, with the joint efforts of all colleagues, it will continue to work hard in the five major areas: academic exchange and promotion, collaboration and quality control of critical care visual treatment, multi-center scientific research, educational innovation, and medical-industrial cooperation.
