The “Celebration Activities of the 130th Anniversary West China Hospital of Sichuan University—2022  West China Hospital Academic Forum on Hematology and International Journal of Blood Transfusion and Hematology Lymphoma Diagnosis and Treatment Research Progress Symposium”, co-sponsored by Sichuan Oncology Society,  Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association (SCIMEA), West China Hospital of Sichuan University, West China Second University Hospital of Sichuan University and the International Journal of Blood Transfusion and Hematology of Chinese Medical Association, and organized by Department of Hematology of West China Hospital of Sichuan University, was successfully held on December 17-18, 2022 in an offline and online manner.

In the morning of December 17, at the branch venue of chronic lymphocytic leukemia, Prof. Xu Caigang from Shangjin Hospital, West China Hospital of Sichuan University, hosted the opening ceremony of the meeting. Prof. Niu Ting from West China Hospital of Sichuan University, Prof. Li Jianyong from Jiangsu Province  Hospital (the 4th Chairman of the Committee of Hematology Oncology of China Anti-Cancer  Association), Prof. Qiu Lugui from Institute of Hematology and Blood Diseases Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (the 5th Chairman of the Committee of Hematology Oncology of China Anti-Cancer Association) and Prof. Ji Chunyan from Qilu Hospital of Shandong University (the 6th Chairman of the Committee of Hematology Oncology of China Anti-Cancer Association) successively delivered speeches.

Prof. Niu Ting expressed his warm welcome and heartfelt thanks to all the experts and scholars who attended this meeting. He said that experts and scholars in hematology have made great efforts for the cause of hematology in central and western China. This meeting consists of 5 branch venues: chronic lymphocytic leukemia, lymphoma, leukemia, epigenetic advances in hematology, and plasma cell disease, and many hematologists from all over the country were invited to discuss the latest advances and research results in the field of hematology. It is hoped the meeting will achieve complete success under the guidance of all the experts.

Prof. Li Jianyong expressed his warm congratulations on the establishment of the Sichuan Working Group for Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. Prof. Li pointed out that West China Hospital of Sichuan University is an important force in hematology in China. Chronic lymphocytic leukemia is not a trivial disease. He hoped under the leadership of Prof. Niu Ting, we can strengthen the standardized treatment of chronic lymphocytic leukemia and prolong the survival of patients; meanwhile, we can improve the diagnosis and treatment strategy of chronic lymphocytic leukemia and prognosis treatment, and promote the further development of hematology-related diseases.

Prof. Qiu Lugui firstly congratulated the 130th anniversary of the establishment of West China Hospital. Then he mentioned Chinese Working Group for Chronic Lymphoma was established in 2017. Since its establishment, the working group has advanced the precise diagnosis and standardized treatment in the field related to inert lymphoma and carried out a series of clinical research work. The Department of Hematology of West China Hospital of Sichuan University occupies an important position in China, and he believed that the Sichuan Working Group for Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia will continue to develop under the leadership of Prof. Niu Ting and contribute to the development of the cause of inert lymphoma in China.

Professor Ji Chunyan expressed his congratulations to the Department of Hematology of West China Hospital of Sichuan University for its great achievements, and hoped that the Sichuan Working Group for Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia, under the leadership of Prof. Niu Ting, would continue to develop and innovate and move forward to bring hope to patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

In the afternoon of December 17, at the branch venue of the lymphoma, Prof. Niu Ting from West China Hospital of Sichuan University hosted the opening ceremony. Prof. Wu Depei from the First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University (the current Chairman of Chinese Society of Hematology), Prof. Huang Xiaojun from Peking University People’s Hospital (the 9th Chairman of Chinese Society of Hematology), Prof. Wang Jianxiang from the Institute of Hematology/Blood Diseases Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (the 10th Chairman of Chinese Society of Hematology), and Prof. Hu Yu of Union Hospital affiliated to Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (the 10th Chairman of Chinese Society of Hematology) and President Li Weimin of West China Hospital of Sichuan University delivered speeches.

Prof. Wu Depei said that the meeting was full of excitement, featuring rich and diversified forms of communication, orderly connection from online to offline methods, and the interaction between basic and clinical aspects. The meeting invited many domestic experts in hematology to share their research results and treatment experiences around new mechanisms, new bases and new advances in blood diseases, which will help to inspire new clinical thinking and continuous innovation and progress for workers in the field of hematology.

Prof. Huang Xiaojun said that this meeting is the best dedication to the 130th anniversary of the establishment of West China Hospital of Sichuan University. The meeting is an academic feast focusing on hematology and tumor diseases, with experts discussing hematology and tumor diseases from multiple dimensions. He believed that it will provide a professional academic exchange platform for hematologists and clinical front-line doctors, enhance the clinical diagnosis and treatment ability of medical personnel, and thus improve the survival rate and quality of life of various hematologic tumor patients.

Prof. Wang Jianxiang pointed out that in recent years, breakthroughs have been made in basic research and clinical areas of hematology in China. This meeting covers chronic lymphocytic leukemia, lymphoma, leukemia and so on. The wide coverage and colorful content will help to improve the diagnosis and treatment of hematological and tumor diseases in western China and promote academic exchanges and cooperation among medical institutions at all levels. Meanwhile, he wished the West China Hospital of Sichuan University and the Department of Hematology of West China Hospital a new chapter and a new glory.

Prof. Hu Yu said that the Department of Hematology of West China Hospital has been developing for 67 years and is a vital force in the field of hematology in China. Meanwhile, the International Journal of Blood Transfusion and Hematology has a long history of operation and has played an important role in promoting academic exchanges and scientific progress in the field of blood transfusion and hematology. This meeting focuses on cutting-edge content, which helps to promote the translation from basic science to clinical practice, promote the collision of medical personnel's thinking, and thus advance the new process of hematology development.

On behalf of West China Hospital, Li Weimin, President of West China Hospital of Sichuan University extended a warm welcome to the experts and scholars attending the meeting. President Li said that the Department of Hematology of West China Hospital dates back to 1955. After 67 years of development, under the leadership of successive discipline leaders, the Department of Hematology of West China Hospital has gradually made great achievements and provided quality medical services for hematology patients in the western region. This meeting invited many domestic experts to gather together to share academic knowledge and conduct in-depth discussion on issues related to hematology, bringing new concepts and new ideas to clinical medical personnel, which is conducive to the overall improvement of clinical diagnosis and treatment of blood diseases.

The meeting came to an end after a lively academic exchange and intriguing discussions. Prof. Niu Ting, chairman of the meeting, expressed his expectation that the central and western regions can communicate and learn more from the advanced centers in China; focus on basic frontier, precise diagnosis and treatment, cross collaboration and scientific research methods, open international vision and innovate diagnosis and treatment thinking. It is believed that the success of this meeting will further improve the standardized diagnosis and treatment of hematology in Sichuan, promote the high-quality and innovative development of hematology in Sichuan, and continuously contribute to the construction of a healthy Sichuan!
