To further promote the professional development of trauma and orthopedic medicine in Sichuan province, drive the progress and innovation of trauma and orthopedic medicine, strengthen the communication and cooperation among trauma and orthopedic colleagues from various medical units, and improve the clinical diagnosis and treatment of trauma and orthopedic medical workers in Sichuan, the “2022 Academic Conference on New Progress of Trauma Prevention & Control and Orthopedics”, sponsored by Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association (SCIMEA), organized by Trauma and Orthopedics Branch of SCIMEA and Affiliated Hospital of Chengdu University, was successfully held in Chengdu from August 19 to 20, 2022.

Academic Lecture

Prof. Li Kainan from the Affiliated Hospital of Chengdu University expressed his warm welcome and sincere thanks to the experts and scholars attending the conference. He hoped that the experts could communicate deeply, share new technologies and new ideas, and promote the prosperous development of trauma and orthopedics in Sichuan. This year’s conference invited many experts in the field of trauma and orthopedics from inside and outside the province to give lectures on topics such as total en bloc spondylectomy, thoracolumbar fracture surgery, intervertebral disc laser repair, thoracolumbar tumor, and the development of minimally invasive technology.

The Plenary Session of the Trauma and Orthopedics Branch of SCIMEA

Prof. Li Kainan, President of Trauma and Orthopedics Branch of SCIMEA, made a report on the work of the branch in 2021 and reviewed the member status of the branch and the conferences held in 2021.

Mr. Tong Yubo, Director of Academic Conference Affairs Department of SCIMEA, made a report on the services of SCIMEA in 2021, and presided over the enlarged session of all members of the Trauma and Orthopedics Branch. After the democratic election of all members of the branch, four experts, including Feng Daxiong, Liu Yuehong, Zhao Chenyang and Zhang Zhi, were co-opted as vice presidents of the branch, and 29 experts, including Zeng Jianwei, Zeng Lihua, Deng Wei, Duan Xin and Hu Haigang, were elected as members of the branch. Prof. Li Kainan, president of the Trauma and Orthopedics Branch of SCIMEA, awarded the appointment letters to the newly elected vice presidents and members and took a group photo.

After that, President Li Kainan introduced the branch’s work plan for the next year and invited members to actively conduct a discussion. President Li said that the next work would mainly focus on the following four points: 1. launching grassroots activities in the province and calling on members in each region to actively sign up; 2. organizing regional orthopedic trauma training activities; 3. holding academic meetings on orthopedic trauma in prefecture-level cities jointly with the platform of SCIMEA; 4. launching paired support activities with mountainous areas. Vice President Li Haibo pointed out that in the second half of the year, the branch planned to carry out training activities for trauma centers, and experts in trauma orthopedics would be invited to participate in the training and share their experiences and achievements; Vice President Wu Qingsong emphasized that facing the current orthopedic group-buying problem, it is necessary to devise a good group-buying path to promote the homogenization of medical teams, and encourage members to actively participate in academic meetings of trauma orthopedics. He also indicated that training courses will be arranged later to improve the treatment level of medical personnel in the field of orthopedic trauma; Vice President Zhang Zhi indicated that how to lead the professional development, realize the smooth transition of medical work under group buying, and promote new functions and new technologies is the development direction of clinical medical personnel in the future; Vice President Zhao Chenyang pointed out that SCIMEA needs to absorb more backbone personnel at county and district level to join the branch, so as to expand the team of trauma and orthopedic branch. He also revealed that  regional academic events are planned to be hold in Panzhihua-Xichang region next year; Vice President Feng Daxiong, on behalf of the southern region of Sichuan, hoped to participate more in academic activities and scientific and technological activities in the countryside in the future; Wu Chao, a member of the standing committee, hoped that the scientific research results of digital orthopedics could be transformed to the grassroots hospitals through SCIMEA, and said he would undertake grassroots activities so that the new technology could be better applied to clinical treatment; Chen Dongmei, a member of the branch, said she would actively participate in academic conferences in the future, and hoped that the branch would Member Chen Dongmei said that she would actively participate in academic conferences in the future, and hoped that the branch could absorb more nursing staff to improve their clinical skills and level.

It is believed that the holding of the academic conference on new progress of trauma prevention & control and orthopedics will help medical workers in the field of trauma and orthopedics to grasp the latest developments and understand the direction of professional technology, so as to better apply them to clinical work, and at the same time, enhance the influence and medical service capacity of trauma and orthopedics in each region, and jointly promote the continuous development of trauma and orthopedics in Sichuan province.
