Nowadays, promoting the clinical development of orthopaedics with the application of new technologies and guiding the transformation of new technologies from the orthopaedic clinical medicine are becoming a new trend in the international development of orthopaedics. In order to further push for the exchange and development of orthopaedic clinical technology and orthopaedic translational medicine in Sichuan Province, the inaugural meeting of the Special Committee on Orthopedic Technology Innovation and Transformation of Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association (SCIMEA) was held on the afternoon of July 2, 2021 in Chengdu. The leaders and guests present at the meeting included Prof. Zhou Zongke from West China Hospital of Sichuan University, Secretary General Zhang Mengfan of SCIMEA, Prof. Zhu Xiangdong from National Engineering Research Center for Biomaterials at Sichuan University, Prof. Zhu Jianxin from Sichuan Provincial People's Hospital, Prof. Shi Bo from Mianyang Central Hospital, Prof. Lan Hai from Affiliated Hospital of Chengdu University, Prof. Lu Xiaobo from Southwest Medical University, and nearly 100 experts and scholars from Sichuan Province.

First of all, Prof. Zhou Zongke from West China Hospital of Sichuan University, one of the initiators of the Special Committee on Orthopedic Technology Innovation and Transformation of SCIMEA, made a report on the preparatory work of the Committee. He noted that the original intention of establishing the Committee mainly came from two aspects. From the perspective of the external environment, we are now in the development of the fifth industrial revolution, and our country is now moving towards internationalization or even taking the lead in the development of related fields; while from the perspective of the internal environment, China attaches more and more importance to innovation and transformation, and innovation is the driving force for future development.

The election of the Committee was organized by Tong Yubo, Director of Academic Conference Affairs Department of SCIMEA, and the results was read out. All participants elected the chairman, vice chairmen, standing committee members and other leaders at all levels of the Committee according to the election provisions in the Articles of Association of Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association. As a result, the Special Committee on Orthopedic Technology Innovation and Transformation of SCIMEA is composed of nearly 100 experts in this field in Sichuan. Among them, Prof. Zhou Zongke from West China Hospital of Sichuan University, was elected as the chairman, 6 experts, including Zhu Xiangdong, Zhu Jianxin, Lan Hai, Deng Xuangeng, Lu Xiaobo and Shi Bo, as deputy chairmen, another 22 experts, including Zhang Zhen, Hu Bing, Sun Yong, Wang Xi, Weng Jie and Zhang Xiaojin, as members of the standing committee of the Committee,  another 58 experts including Xing Shuxing, Cao Wanjun, Yuan Jin, Huang Hongjie, Xu Qiang, Chen Guo and Liang Weimin, as members of the Committee, and Zeng Weinan as the secretary of the Committee.

The newly elected chairman of the Special Committee on Orthopedic Technology Innovation and Transformation of SCIMEA, Prof. Zhou Zongke, spoke on behalf of all members of this committee. He first expressed his gratitude to SCIMEA on behalf of all the experts and scholars for its trust; in the future, under the leadership of the SCIMEA, they will regularly carry out the exchange & study, thematic research and medical-industrial integration of various cross-disciplines, make good use of the platform, do more practical work and create a dynamic orthopedic innovation team.

At the end of the meeting, Secretary General Zhang Mengfan of SCIMEA expressed her heartfelt congratulations on the official establishment of the Special Committee on Orthopedic Technology Innovation and Transformation, and briefly introduced the relevant information of SCIMEA to the guests, clarifying that the SCIMEA is a new platform-based industry organization dedicated to promoting international medical exchange and cooperation, academic exchange and discipline development, as well as industry resource integration and value transformation. Although the SCIMEA was established less than three years ago, it has recently passed the 5A-level social organization evaluation of the Department of Civil Affairs of Sichuan Province; the platform of SCIMEA will surely fuel the development of the Special Committee on Orthopedic Technology Innovation and Transformation, pave the way for scientific and technological innovation and transformation in the field of orthopedics, and comprehensively help to improve the development of orthopedics in Sichuan and western China.
