In order to further promote stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation in China, “SCIMEA CDQI—The Second Session (Central Sichuan Meeting) of Academic Meetings on Standardization of Stroke Prevention in Atrial Fibrillation” was held in Chengdu Minyoun Suniya Hotel yesterday, May 30, 2021. The event was hosted by Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association (SCIMEA) and organized by West China Hospital of Sichuan University. The city tour meeting series will bring more voices of scientific diagnosis and treatment of atrial fibrillation to various cities and prefectures in Sichuan Province, to benefit more clinicians and patients. And this meeting in Chengdu is its second stop.

The Central Sichuan Meeting attracted the leaders from the Special Committee on Heart Rhythm of SCIMEA and cardiovascular specialists from nearly 50 hospitals in central Sichuan, as well as nearly 100 medical professionals in the field of internal medicine from this region to learn and exchanges views. In addition, the meeting was also live streamed to communicate with cardiac electrophysiologists in the province.

At the opening ceremony of the conference, Prof. Jiang Jian from West China Hospital of Sichuan University, also the honorary chairman of Special Committee on Heart Rhythm of SCIMEA, first delivered a speech. Prof. Jiang said that according to the relevant statistics in 2019, the cases of surgical ablation for atrial fibrillation in China roughly stood at 79,000, but the cases in Sichuan region still has great room for improvement in comparison, and he hoped that through the city tour meeting series, the comprehensive prevention and treatment capability of atrial fibrillation in Sichuan can be improved for the benefit of patients.

In his speech, Prof. Fu Hua from West China Hospital of Sichuan University, Chairman of the Special Committee on Heart Rhythm of SCIMEA, expressed his hope that through the joint efforts of all colleagues, a platform for standardize diagnosis and treatment of atrial fibrillation in cardiovascular medicine and for standardized clinical management of stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation for doctors in related fields can be established, so as to reduce the rates of misdiagnosis and missed diagnosis, improve the accuracy of diagnosis and cure rate, upgrade the atrial fibrillation diagnosis and treatment in Sichuan province to a new level, and ensure further improvement of patients' quality of life and health. He added, at the subsequent 2021 West China Atrial Fibrillation Week, things will be discussed and exchanged with experts through online and offline methods.

Afterwards, the launch ceremony of 2021 West China Atrial Fibrillation Week was also successfully held under the witness of the experts, which has played an active role in improving atrial fibrillation diagnosis and management in China since its inception.

The executive chairman of the meeting, Prof. Hu Hongde from West China Hospital of Sichuan University, said in his speech that in the context of an aging population in China, the atrial fibrillation treatment will take a bigger share in the future. However, because of the relatively complex treatment of atrial fibrillation, it puts forward higher requirements for this discipline, and in the future, we must endeavor to provide quality medical services to patients and yield homogeneous and whole-process service value to patients.

In this meeting, during awarding letters of appointment and tablets respectively to the members and construction entities in central Sichuan, Prof. Jiang Jian from West China Hospital of Sichuan University, Prof. Fu Hua from West China Hospital of Sichuan University, Prof. Guo Yong from Dazhou Central Hospital, Prof. Hu Hongde from West China Hospital of Sichuan University, Prof. Li Decai from Mianyang 404 Hospital, Prof. He Tao from Sichuan Provincial People’s Hospital and Prof. Liu Hanxiong from The Third People's Hospital of Chengdu jointly stepped onto the stage to award the letters of appointment the 42 members in this region and the tablets to the 35 construction centers.

An academic exchange, presided over by Prof. Fu Hua from West China Hospital of Sichuan University, Prof. Guo Yong from Dazhou Central Hospital, Prof. Li Decai from Mianyang 404 Hospital and Prof. Zhang Haibo from Yaan People's Hospital, was followed. During the exchange, the experts shared their views by centering on the topic of “comprehensive management of atrial fibrillation diseases”. Prof. Jiang Jian from West China Hospital of Sichuan University analyzed the “Advantages of Rhythm Control in Atrial Fibrillation”, Prof. Liu Hanxiong from The Third People's Hospital of Chengdu shared “The Status of Catheter Ablation in Atrial Fibrillation Treatment”, Prof. Xu Yuanning from West China Hospital of Sichuan University presented the “Ventricular Rate Control in Patients with Atrial Fibrillation: Drugs and Devices”, Prof. He Tao from Sichuan Provincial People's Hospital explained in detail the “Standardized Anticoagulation Therapy in Atrial Fibrillation: Improving the Success Rate of Anticoagulation Therapy”, Prof. Hu Hongde from West China Hospital of Sichuan University introduced the “Graded Diagnosis & Treatment and Comprehensive Management of Atrial Fibrillation”, and Prof. Zeng Jie from Sichuan Provincial People's Hospital shared the “Clinical Application of Left Atrial Appendage Closure” with the guests via a video link. These presentations on atrial fibrillation diagnosis and treatment made by all experts were featured with wide coverage, strong practicality and high precision, offering an academic feast to all present guests and scholars.

The academic sharing at the scene is fascinating.

In the concluding speech, Prof. Hu Hongde from West China Hospital of Sichuan University noted that, through this regional meeting, experts and scholars had an in-depth exchange on the construction of CDQI and the standardized stroke prevention strategy in atrial fibrillation, which had achieved good results. At the meeting, we have built a backbone team for future treatment of atrial fibrillation in central Sichuan, which will help to unify the medical quality and improve the diagnosis and treatment ability, and promote the continuous development of cardiovascular pathology in this region. In the subsequent meetings, we will also share information and further discuss the reasonable diagnosis and treatment standards in the field of atrial fibrillation around the “whole staff, whole process, whole field” policy.
